Williams Sisters to Face Off in Wimbledon Finals
by Sarah

Venus and Serena Williams are about to make history. Again.

Tomorrow will mark the third time the sisters will be meeting each other at the Wimbledon Ladies' Singles Final. Then a couple of hours later they will be playing as a team in the Ladies' Doubles Finals.

I think the right word to use in a situation like this is "dominant".

Coming into the tournament Serena and Venus were ranked 6th and 7th (respectively) in the world. After tomorrow they will probably both move up in the rankings. The last two times the siblings have met in the Wimbledon finals Serena, the younger of the two, has come out on top.  But that is not to say that Serena has the edge. As Classicrose from Talking Stuff points out:

Venus is the women's defending champion. Her win last year gave her
four Wimbledon championships. Serena has won the women's title twice.

Paula Vergara has a great post on On the Baseline that outlines the championships that each sister has won and the results of the high profile games in which they have gone head-to-head in the past. I love this post. This is just a taste of her post.

1998 - Australian Open Second Round - Venus winner
2000 - Wimbledon Semifinal - Venus winner
2001 - U.S. Open Final - Venus winner
2002 - French Open Final - Serena winner
2002 - Wimbledon Final - Serena winner
2002 - U.S. Open Final - Serena winner
2003 - Australian Open Final - Serena winner
2003 - Wimbledon Final - Serena winner
2005 - U.S. Open Fourth Round - Venus winner

Those are the Grand Slam Head-to-Head results.

I guess Megan was right when she made this prediction yesterday:

When it comes to the women, I just have two words for you:  Williams
and Williams.  I'm a big fan of Elena Dementieva---crappy serve or no
crappy serve---but no way is she beating Venus today.

And isn't it lovely that the day after our American Independence Day three out of the four women who will appear in Centre Court tomorrow will be representing the United States?

I'm excited and will watch

I used to watch tennis much more often (was a huge Sampras fan.) But this has got me fired up, and I will definitely be watching. Do you know when it starts?

They are something else!

I am looking forward to seeing them play. They make the game exciting. Wish the men would get more exciting.
