BlogHer '08
I'm back from BlogHer '08 and it was such a jam packed weekend, I'm still processing all the great experiences. The women were as varied as their blogs, the parties were loud and fun, and the event itself ran, from my point of view, flawlessly.Melissa Silverstein of Women & Hollywood and I had the pleasure of hosting an entertainment bloggers' meet-up and I wanted to use this first post after BlogHer '08 to showcase some of those women and their blogs. Anyone I don't mention in this post, I will make every effort to mention in upcoming posts.
I am in a reading rut. Perhaps a reading funk even. As much as I love books there are days where whatever book I try on just doesn't fit. I picked up a YA novel but I've read so much YA in the past year that I'm almost tired of it (don't worry, this feeling will pass in a day or two I promise). I picked up the contemporary fiction novel that so many bloggers are raving about but I didn't even get past the first paragraph before I set it aside. I want to read but nothing is pulling me in. Books have abandoned me and I'm in a proper funk about it.
With so many bloggers travelling this weekend and throughout the summer it's time to talk about vacation reading. How many books to pack, what kind of books to pack - these are all things we need to think about when packing. Or when we find ourselves in the airport gift shop. Here's a few things that I've discovered work best when combining reading and travelling.
1. Pack more books than you think you'll need. If you normally read one book on vacation pack three. Have back-ups for those rainy vacation days and in your carry-on that "extended" layover in Chicago.
BlogHer '08 is getting off to a bang! First, let me say, the ladies are looking fabulous! I have seen many hot summer fashions with many metallic accessories. Bronze is smoking hot right now! We are also being treated to the sight of ridiculously-high wedges that women are somehow impressively able to walk in, albeit not far (I love them!). Many women are also rocking the cool casual looks.Bronze is everywhere!

I'll admit my finger is not exactly on the pulse of Hollywood happenings. I have far too much going on in my life to add celebrity watching to the list. However, when there is a natural or home birth in Hollywood (things near and dear to my heart), the news usually crosses my path one way or another. And so I was both surprised and pleased to read yesterday that Jessica Alba's new daughter Honor Marie Warren was born via a natural hypnobirth.
Even though Heavy Metal in Baghdad never hit the mainstream movie theatres, the documentary, released on DVD earlier this month, is already a hit.
