I had a GREAT time at BlogHer '08 in San Francisco. But, like all good things, it has come to an end. Now, not only do I have the Post BlogHer Blues, but I'm also feeling very sick. I'm totally exhausted, with a headache, sore throat, stuffy nose, and my ears feel like they are going to explode.
It's nice to know I'm not alone. Apparently, the Post BlogHer Blues is very common...It's the sad feeling you get when the BlogHer conference comes to an end. One minute you are surrounded by all your BlogHer friends, and the next minute they are all gone. It's an emotional roller coaster.
Here's how merlot mom explains it...
Here we are, it's the Monday after BlogHer and I've got the Post BlogHer Blues.
It's like the letdown I felt after my wedding which took 8 months to plan and only a few fleeting hours to enjoy.
It's like the disappointment I feel after I've cooked for hours only to have my kids purge the meal into their napkins and opt for yogurt instead.
I waited so long for BlogHer - looking ahead to a time of learning, camaraderie, revelry and just plain letting it all hang out kinda FUN. Now, in a few short days, wonderful days, it's all behind me. Soon to become only a fond memory.
Everyday Goddess...
The post-conference crash. Was wicked hard this year. I sat in the lobby drinking coffee on Sunday morning and there was no one talking with me for about 15/20 minutes, and I felt completely freaked out and depressed and lonely.
My Post BlogHer Blues were helped greatly when I ran into Laurie on the elevator, before checking out of the Westin. [About the Westin...The bed, the bedding, the pillows - omg I was in sleepy time heaven.]
Anyway, Laurie ended up spending a fun day with me and my mom, at Fisherman's Wharf. That was on Monday, and by Tuesday, I was feeling horribly sick, very much like I felt after last year's BlogHer conference in Chicago.
It seems to be a BlogHer virus epidemic!
Well, not really an epidemic. It's just your standard head cold. But, a lot of us seem to have it. It's being officially referred to as the BlogHer Bola Virus. Have you come down with it?
Busy Mom Blog...
As my Twitter peeps are painfully aware, I have a nasty cold and the coughing is out of control.
Maria Niles...
Don't think it's allergies (though I was hoping). I will totally blame @ElisaC for infecting me.
Deb Roby...
I thought mine was flu, but now I think it's nasty summer cold: headache, chills, runny nose, cough. no energy.
So...How are you feeling post-BlogHer? Did you get the BlogHer Blues? Or, come down with the BlogHer Bola Virus?
And, just a quick shout-out to a few of the health bloggers I met at BlogHer...
Even though I'm sick, and a little sad...I can't wait to do it all again next year. :-)

I'm A BlogHer Mucus Trooper?
I have been making like a sneezing machine for the past four days. I had to go back to work but I have the whole package, aches, headaches and my poor nose is not happy.
Liquids, mass quantities of liquids and Excedrin.
Next time I'm stocking up and bringing extra Vitamin C.

Me too!
I had a cold too! I thought it was due to the lack of sleep I had leading up to the conference, then my poor conference diet, compiled with the damp cold weather. Interesting that so many people have colds. Misery loves company and all that.
Feel better soon, my fellow BlogHers!

I've got the bug, too!
I've recovered from my blues (mostly), but I've had Emergen-C every day this week, and this morning I think I may be losing the battle. Sigh.
Glad to know I'm not alone about the post BlogHer blues. I think that next year I need to make Sunday morning breakfast plans. That would have helped.

Zicam
I've got a scratch in my throat, too, but I'm rebelling... I recommend Zicam for all of those in the same boat who are thinking they may be coming down with something (unfortunately it doesn't do much good w/full-blown colds). No - they are not paying me to make that suggestion. :)
Feel better, everyone.

Just this overwhelming, bone sucking exhaustion. I skipped my martial arts last night and today, just because I can't seem to get myself to stay awake. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe.

Travel Tired
I'm tired from traveling, but didn't catch anything that makes me sneeze, cough, ache or feel bad. I guess I'm lucky, or healthy, or the extra Vitamin C finally proved itself.

Thanks for the shout-out! I really enjoyed meeting you and your mom.
I got home late on Monday night and had chemo the next morning. I slept through the whole thing and the nurse had to wake me up at the end! Just like last year, I am bone tired.
I loved BlogHer, this year and last but glad to have some hours to myself again. ;-)

Blogher Bola
Post-Blogher recovery always is hard for me. I don't travel well. This year though, I do have the Blogher-bola virus.
I am starting a campaign for mass handwashing stations at the next Blogher Con. Near schwag, near food, nice little cocktail tray guys carrying hot towels and soap chips. Communal handwashing areas!

Maybe CVS or Walgreens Could Sponsor a Clinic
Room Next Year...
The only thing that saved me and my mom this year, was that I brought a small pharmacy of over the counter cold medications with me (most of which was gone by the time we arrived home). Maybe next year CVS or Walgreens could sponsor a Clinic Room and dispense complimentary cold medicine to BlogHers accordingly...and I'm only half kidding. ;-)

I love that sponsor idea
I think that's a great idea, Catherine - seriously, besides my grocery store, the CVS is where I probably make the most trips other than school-oriented stuff.

LOL
That is why I suggested in my Blogher tips post to bring tylenol, etc.

I think I've turned a corner
I've had two packets of Emergen-C today, and I'm feeling better. Knock on wood!
Although, I have a function to attend after work, and that may just push it back the other way. Sigh.

Both Blues & Virus
I got a little teary when I realized that I had rushed away from the conference without saying goodbye to some folks whom I might not see for another year. Being around your online friends for several days makes it seem like you'll see them again next week. Then I was bummed when I started realizing all the people I wanted to meet and didn't find.
Plus I've got the BlogHerbolavirus bad. Talked to the advice nurse again (after yesterday ruling out strep) and she thinks it's flu not a nasty cold. It would explain why this is worse than anything I've had in years since I haven't had the flu in 5 years.
Sigh. Just back from stocking up on herbal tea and broth and homeopathic flu remedies. I will do anything to help this go away because of course I have no time to rest. Blerg.
Sorry for everyone's pain but glad I am in such wonderful miserable company :)

I'm still blue!
Can't seem to shake it. I miss so many. I am one lonely girl here wishing I could hang with my peeps. Yesterday was especially hard since it was the one week anniversary. I was running through that whole first day in my head.
Only good news, no sickness here.

I've got something...
It feels like I've had jet lag for a week. And there are some in the BH office who are a bit under the weather too.

It's not just me??!!!
I haven't had an actual cold or anything, but I haven't been feeling like myself ever since I got back from San Fran last Sunday. First it took me a few days to adjust to the time-change, and for the past few days I've been getting these weird dizzy-feelings. Strange.
SO WHAT DO WE DO TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING?
