Get Them Cooking

Get Them Cooking

My ten year old daughter is a fairly picky eater.  She wrinkles her  nose at the thought of quite a few meals.  However, for a picky eater, she will eat foods that many kids won't touch, such as broccoli, asparagus, salads.

She always has enjoyed being my assistant in the kitchen, but recently she has expressed more interest in helping.  As she is more capable, I offered to have her make a whole dinner.  She gladly accepted.

Hip clothes for the hippy at TJ Maxx

Hip clothes for the hippy at TJ Maxx

Merciless are the hips I have and the children I teach. The great thing about teenage high school students is that they aren't afraid to speak their minds. They will tell me when they don't like my hair or when I'm frowning too much or when my voice is raised too high for their liking. Mind you, these are the girls I'm talking about here. I've worked hard to cultivate relationships with them whereby they trust me and, apparently, I've done a great job because they tell me everything.

But let's get back to my hips, shall we?

The Shortchange Debate: Can A Mom with Five Kids and A Demanding Career Do Both Well?

The Shortchange Debate: Can A Mom with Five Kids and A Demanding Career Do Both Well?

It's human nature to overlay our own values and beliefs on other people's decisions -- particularly when the decision is to accept one of the most challenging and demanding jobs in the world.

So you see this young mother with five kids who is given the career opportunity of a lifetime and you image it's you being asked to become vice president of the United States. You wonder, "Given the same circumstances, would you say yes to that offer?"

While some would say, "Hell yes!" Many others would say, " Not a chance."

Preserving Summer: Jams, Jellies, Chutneys and Relishes

Preserving Summer: Jams, Jellies, Chutneys and Relishes

I am sure many of us are finding ourselves with a surplus amount of fresh produce. As home gardens, Framer's markets, and CSA boxes are currently overflowing with lovely looking fresh fruit and vegetables, my thoughts normally turn to preserving them for use later in the year.

My solution to all this
surplus produce is preserving – making jams, jellies, chutneys and
preserves is something we have gotten used to doing every year.
Although it’s just the three of us, our consumption on these items is
rather high.

How much for that sticker in the window?

How much for that sticker in the window?

maserati monroneyThere’s one of them in the window of every car on the lot. It’s the law! They’re the tools of both car buyers and automotive journalists, and even if you might take those lowly window stickers for granted when your're out shopping for a new car, did you know they have a name?

Fannie Mae's Birthday Outing

Hi guys,

Ponderings

Hmmm... the pressure is on now. What exactly do I write? I never was much of a writer. In fact I hate it (notice the complete disregard of the existance of commas). But I like the idea of a place where I can tell random people random things. Like....

2 nights ago I got so drunk that I called a guy I know (barely) and told him about my first time. I was traumatized the next day and have completely sworn of liqour for a very long time.

 OR

I have an honest to god fear of going through the car wash. Ive seen too many scary movies.
