Need a ride to BlogHer ’08? Announcing the BlogHer Carpool, brought to you by General Motors

BlogHer '08 Carpool

Need a ride to BlogHer? One thing we're all painfully aware of: Gas is expensive! And plane travel can be exorbitant. Last year a posse of environmentally minded Canadian BlogHers carpooled to Chicago for BlogHer '07, and enjoyed the experience. Our Platinum sponsor, GM, provided them with a vehicle. This year, GM will be providing BlogHer '08 attendees with Chevy hybrid vehicles in several major metro areas. If you would like to be a part of the carpool program, here's what you have to do:

  1. Make sure you qualify for a vehicle (see "Requirements" below).
  2. Confirm others in your area who would like to join you. If you don't already have people in mind you can do that by clicking on the links below corresponding with areas where cars are available, and posting your request to connect with someone in your area in the comments section. Or, post your request on your blog.
  3. Once you have established your carpool group, email Kristy Sammis at kristy@blogher.com, so that we can verify your group against the requirements listed below.
  4. Once we've verified your group we will match you with an available vehicle on first-approved, first-served basis.

Available metro areas:

Requirements:

  • Your group must include at least three BlogHer '08 attendees. Once you have been notified that your group has been approved, all attendees have 48 hours to complete their registrations for the conference (if they haven't already done so), or they risk forfeiting their reserved vehicle to the next group that applies.
  • You must be able to factor in drive time both to and from the conference, as you will be required to drive both ways.
  • Car reviews, or any write-ups about the vehicle and your experiences are welcome, though not required. In any posts that you mention the donated vehicle or arranged carpool you must disclose that GM provided you with the vehicle.

FAQs

Where do we pick up our car?
Once your carpool group has been confirmed and matched with a vehicle, you will be notified by GM and may select to pick up the vehicle at a GM facility, or have the vehicle delivered.

What costs will GM cover?
GM is responsible for any costs relating to the vehicle, including repairs resulting from any malfunction, or malfunctioning parts. GM will reimburse each group for the first gas tank refill. GM will not reimburse lodging expenses, food, or additional recreation costs. GM will cover parking costs in San Francisco, if the cars are parked at GM's San Francisco facility (address to be supplied).

Insurance requirements? These will be provided after carpoolers are matched with cars.
