While more than a thousand bloggers were mixing and mingling at this year's BlogHer conference, one was conspicuously missing. Sher, who wrote the blog What Did You Eat?, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack Sunday morning. Her friend Glenna of A Fridge Full of Food ... memorializes her:
"... In the hours since talking to her husband, Bob, I have stopped myself at least a dozen times from leaving off what I was doing in the moment to go to the computer to email my friend Sherry about how crappy I feel about my friend Sherry dying. That's how big a part of my life she was ..."
As the news spread, people gravitated back to her blog and left condolence comments for her family on her final post, which went up just the day before she passed.
BlogHer Contributing Editor Kalyn Denny has been instrumental in getting the word out to the blogosphere, and has suspended this week's Weekend Herb Blogging in homage to her friend.
Our condolences to Sher's family, friends and readers.

She was very much loved
I'm spending the day feeling very sad one minute and also wondering why I feel such deep emotion for a friend I never managed to meet. Such is the power of online connections. I featured Sher's photos and recipes many times on BlogHer and considered her to be a really gifted blogger. More than that, I considered her to be a great friend, and I will truly miss her.

How we belong to each other
From reading this it's struck me how much Sherry belonged to so many people as well as her family and friends - a lovely way to be treasured. I hope all who hold her in their hearts find comfort in this.
Kind wishes,

A note about the recipe tributes
I think very indicative of how mentally connected the food blogging community is that the idea of cooking one of Sher's recipes as a tribute to her seemed to spring up spontaneously from several places. This week food bloggers all over the world will be making one of the recipes from Sher's blog, and then posting the recipe on their own blog on Sunday, July 27. I have just heard that Sher's friend Glenna has offered to add those links to the end of her tribute to Sher so Sher's family and friends can find them. Bloggers who would like their tribute linked with Glenna's post can send the link to marie9949 (at) sbcglobal (dot) net after the post appears on Sunday.)

Terrible advertising!!
I had read her obituary in our local newspaper and knew that she died of a heart attack, so it was a HUGE shock to see that the advertisement that accompanied this entry was for suicide prevention. very, very bad placement!!!
I was not aware of her before her death, but have since gone back and read a lot of her entries and I can see what a big loss this is to the blogging community. I didn't realize she was apparently a neighbor of mine too.
Condolences
I am so, so sorry for this loss.
