Hello, I'm Melanie...

as you can see from my subject line.  I am new to both Blogging and Blogher.  I began blogging as an outlet to express my feelilngs about the transition going on in my life and as a way for my friends and family to keep up with what is going on with my husband and me as we relocate to a new city.  When I first began blogging, I expected it to be informative and just communication to family and friends, mainly.  Now I find that I've branched out into opening up more about my feelings and sharing things about myself I never expected to share.  Cathartic really.  I don't consider myself a writer, I do enjoy the simple act of sitting down and letting the words flow and sometimes I like to add a dash of creativity as well.

Thank you for letting me stand here nervously and introduce myself.  I feel like it is the first day of school.

Hello there, Melanie.  Wish I could figure out how to email you . . . is there a button I just need to push . . . do we all have email accounts at blogher.com or . . . . how does this work?  Thanks for your nice comment.  I'm not sure what a blogroll is, but I'm glad to be on it.  I understand your first-day-of-school blog jitters . . . you know . . . worried my skirt is too short, that sort of thing.

Ha!  Now I know what that ABC button does.

To be honest, I'm not sure if our emails are published here on Blogher!  But mine is on my blog so I'm happy to give it to you! I can be reached at:  hellonewlife@gmail.com

As far as a Blogroll, or is it Blog roll?  Hmmm.  Anyway, it is simply a list of Blogs you like to read that you publish as a list on your blog.  Like if you were to go to my Blog, you will now find your Blog listed under the heading on the right entitled Blogs I Read Daily.

ABC...  Ha!  I mistook it earlier for spellcheck.  You the Lawyer, me the English major.  Perhaps one day we can figure out all the techie bells and whistles!

Hi, Melanie. I just joined Blogher on Monday, so I'm still learning the ropes.  I can tell you that everyone one here is great.  No hazing the scubs, so to speak.  It's a sweet sisterhood. 

Sounds like you are off on an adventure.  I look forward to following along.

Thanks for the welcome to the sisterhood!  Thank God for the no hazing policy here... I'm just too damn old for any of that business.  How is it that I've somehow missed ruawake.com?  I've just spent a few minutes peeking around and so enjoy your sense of humor and insight!  I enjoyed your post on Facebook, which I only joined a month or so ago.  And Twitter... I haven't dipped my toes into that pool yet. 

I am looking forward to reading more of your blog. 

Congrats on your book.  Is that recent?  You are a gifted writer.

Shucks.  You just made my day.  I might be a fine writer, but I stink at promotion (I'd rather write).  Everything by me sort of gets found by accident.  The book is about to turn two.  She's the little pink book that could.  Wrote it in a week, had it to the printer in eight weeks, was on Amazon eight weeks after that...and then I realized, "Snap.  I forgot about PR and magazine lead times."  By the time I found a friend at Vogue, the book was already passe (at six months old).  Didn't occur to me to get it reviewed.  Duh.  Little things like that, stuff I KNOW and would tell anyone else to do, but I forgot to do myself.  Sigh.  Everyone should learn from my missteps.

Twitter is awesome.  I love it.  Check out some of the people I follow if you want to see the randomness of it.  And Facebook right now is like the high school quad.  So many friends from HS and college that I lost touch with, playing catch up.  It's like passing notes between classes all day.  ;)

Andrea... Um, you are awesome?

Thank you for the warm welcome Andrea!  Can I add YOU to MY Blogroll please?  I just visited your blog and the post about Ohare and the wheelchairs and the rotten gate agent, well, it was great.  I left you a comment.  I believe when I read it, it musts have hit a nerve... I've been traveling to Chicago a lot lately and Ohare is beginning to feel more familiar than I would like for it to.  :-)   (I should get used to that FAST, I'm moving to the Chicago area in five weeks.)

Hey Ladies,

Welcome to BlogHer.  It really is much less traumatic here than the first day of school.  Take some time to check through the topic areas you're interested in and read some posts there.

If you're into politics...and who isn't these days...check out some of the great political coverage from BlogHers at the Democratic convention.  Contributing Editors Maria Niles, Erin Kotecki Vest and several others are all over it.  There are videos and photos and plenty of interviews.  We'll also have BlogHers at the Republican convention next week.

I cover Television and YouTube for BlogHer and I usually post on Mondays, so if that's you're thing be sure to check out my posts.

One really good piece of advice, fill out your profiles so other BlogHers can find you and see what your interest are.  Our profile page was recently updated so you can include a feed from your blog, your Twitter tweets, your Facebook page, etc.  It's a great place for other BlogHers to find out what you're all about.
