Hang on folks 'cause we're about to have a "YouTube President" in the White House. Yes, it's true he may now have to give up his BlackBerry, but that doesn't mean his administration won't use the media and the internet in ways that have only been imagined in politics before.Last night President-elect Barack Obama did his first televised interview since the election with Steve Kroft of "60 Minutes." And though interviews by new presidents on "60 Minutes" are not new, the way Mr. Obama has used the media to his advantage rivals that of The Great Communicator himself, the late President Ronald Reagan.
Remember way back in 1994 and 1995 when you actually surfed the 'net? You could start out at one page and end up in a completely different spot and nothing was actually related. You were just surfing and following along. These days I sometimes find I miss that randomness. Thanks to Google Reader I check the same sites every day. There are days, though, when I want something fresh and new. Something I haven't seen before. Those are the days I Stumble.

What Is StumbleUpon?
Kirtsy.com is the brain-child of Gabrielle Blair, Laura Mayes, Laurie Smithwick, and Gwen Bell. The idea behind Kirtsy is to be the female version of Digg.com. It’s a place where we can go to see the latest stories on what we’re interested in. Kirtsy has several categories to fit your needs:

Emily McKann and Cooper Munroe met 20 years ago. They began blogging together at Been There a few years ago, and recently relaunched The Motherhood, what they call "your neighborhood of friends." The site features member spotlights, "neighborhoods" and "circles", where potentially like-minded moms can connect. A few already started?
Let’s see, a couple of years ago there was the about to be divorced friend of a friend who had dinner with me one evening, proclaimed his interest in doing all sorts of things together in the future, and then didn't email or call; behaviors, that, at the time left me totally shocked (I thought that if someone said they wanted to see you and then changed their mind, they’d pass that knowledge on.)
So far the news reports aren't saying how and when Dr. Pepper learned about Kelly Gray-- the Virginia hairdresser who was auctioning off the opportunity for someone to be a bridesmaid in her wedding.
They could have found out about it here...at No Shame Auctions
a website that promises to bring you the "most watched weird eBay Auctions and Mystery Auctions on eBay."
Maybe.
When it comes to reporting food shortages, most of the media's attention this week was appropriately on rice---( some say there's a shortage, some say no).
Gut Check writes,
In the grand scheme of things, the matzo shortage doesn’t compare to the lack of rice in Asia or the lack of food of any kind in Haiti. But it does pose a moral conumdrum. Most of us don’t even like the stuff. It’s dry and brittle and sticks in your throat and doesn’t even taste good to compensate. (It doesn’t really taste like anything, so I guess it could be worse.)
At 8:30 this moring she walked up to the 12 person table where I was seated and asked me, " Are all these seats taken?" There were just four of us at the table and I said, " Sit down." Her name is Terry Gamer. This is her first blogging conference. She is 64 years old and until four months ago she didn't know a blog from a Twitter. She doesn't have a blog. She's thinking about starting one but not quite sure what she would write about.
Speakers: Jory Des Jardins, Elisa Camahort Page, Lisa Stone Lisa: BlogHer is in its fourth conference year. The ad network reaches 8-9 MM uniques a month. We are in the big time now.

Just returning from She's Geeky, I was so happy to see Learning how to use your new gardening tool: The Web at Gardening Tips and Ideas. Stuart presents well-thought out posts that usually teach me something new. This article, though, made me feel like I was living in past.
His tips for using the web as a gardening tool?
