OK, sorry so late, but I am here with a SYTYCD recap and my prediction for the finale...just under the wire.
I'll be honest, I thought the show just sagged. They all seemed tired. And I also thought the camera work was terrible, completely terrible. There was no ay to appreciate several of the numbers because you really couldn't get the true picture of what was going on.
But enough whining, on with the recap:
1. Courtney and Twitch danced a Napolean & Tabitha hip-hop number
OK, is anybody else out there dreading tonight's elimination show? I like 'em all. Kristy was saying at the office today that she loved the show because it's really so positive...from the contestants themselves to even the "jidges" when they are critiquing to our host, Cat Deely, who appears to honestly care about the dancers. So much so that she'll actually share spit with them, which was totally nasty if you ask me.
And while I think this week's elimination is pretty predictable, after this it's anyone's guess.
This week they switched up partners again, danced two different styles and once again did a solo. Everyone may have their strengths and weaknesses, but they all have talent and charm. There's nobody I just can't wait to send home. In fact this whole season has been like that. There were only a couple of folks I was actively rooting for to go home.
Couple #1 was Will and Courtney
Yeah, yeah, I know the East Coast already knows what happened tonight, but I'm going to post my recap anyway, and make my predictions anyway, and trust that you'll trust that I haven't looked up the results. (Which you'll probably trust anyway, because I'll probably get it wrong.)
Once again the couples danced twice, and this is the last time they will be stuck to one another like glue...and the last time they can hope for a judge to save the. Starting next week the couples will get moved around, and America will be totally responsible for who goes and who stays.
Last night was an epic SYTYCD, with each couple performing two routines. Last night it was also clear who the judges favor, who they are gunning for, and I even detected a bit of strategy on their part, namely: Send a message to fans that they would never boot Will, so please PLEASE put him in the Bottom 3, so they can boot Jessica.
And I have the same plea.
It's tightening up people, now's the time to bring it!
I may indeed be prepared to agree with those shiny hype-y people, the SYTYCD judges, and declare this the best season yet for SYTYCD. All credit for that is due to the hip-hoppers, B-boys and popper/lockers who are bringing it outside their own genre, avoiding having to save themselves with amazing solos, while they lag in ballroom, latin and contemporary style. I think some of the hep cats have a little classical dance training somewhere in their past, that's alls I'm sayin'
Elisa is on the road today, so I'm stepping out of the wings and into her spotlight with this week's recap of So You Think You Can Dance!
This season the pre-finals episodes of So You Think You Can Dance seem curtailed. And more focused on the good ones who showed up, not the freaks. I'm all for that. But I do think Vegas "week" may have warranted more than a single hour of air time devoted to it.
You don't get to know and root for any of the contestants when they're trying to show you 30-40 of them in one hour.
It's anybody's guess, so I'll certainly make mine!
Last night we had a finale featuring four really strong dancers. Were they really the four strongest dancers this season has seen? For three out of four of them I think the answer is probably "yes", and the fourth one showed the most improvement over the season...which catapulted him into being an unlikely finalist (yes, I mean Neil.)
So, let's get right to it.
Thank goodness the results show isn't until Monday! How dare they not have the results show until Monday?
Sorry I've missed recapping, for both the Top 10 and the Top 8. I missed seeing the Top 10 live because I was en route to Chicago for BlogHer.
Never fear, the intrepid Maria Niles gave me her reenactment in my hotel room, complete with overly-literal Wade Robson clock moves and cliched college modern dance flailing moves. When I watched the real thing on TiVo days alter I found I hadn't missed much by getting the Maria version :)
