Senator Hillary Clinton at the Service Nation Summit!

by Britt Bravo at 5:37pm Fri, 12 Sep 2008 under Social change, Non-profits & NGOs, Hillary Clinton, service, service nation, sno8; 456 views
"A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle."-- James Keller Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) was one of the final speakers today at the Service Nation Summit. Clinton called America, "The" Service Nation, and said that service has never been more important than it is today. "As the world becomes more complicated and problems more intractable, we are called to serve."

FRAGILE! McCain campaign handles Palin's exposure with care...and sexism

At the post, "Sarah is the Fresh Air," on Blogher, I found this comment today: When can she be interviewed by reporters - I find it disturbing that the McCain campaign isn't allowing Ms. Palin to be interviewed by reporters. What are they hiding? According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, possibly never:

It was a Bittersweet Convention

When people ask me why I moved back to Upstate New York the answer is a very succinct "Because of the money". And then I shrug and say that it's just ok. When people ask me how I ended up in Washington, DC for six years, the story is longer. I don't shrug or give it a brush off, I happily go through each step starting with my early acceptance into American University and crying in the middle of Houlihan's when I was accepted.

Women's issues, rights and equality

With the Democratic National Convention in full swing and Women's Equality Day, marking the 88th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote, celebrated on Aug. 26, women's issues have been a hot topic lately.

Hillary Clinton Calls for Vote by Affirmation - Barack Obama is the Democratic Nominee

by Sarah Granger at 6:40pm Wed, 27 Aug 2008 under Politics & News, blogher, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, What's Hot?; 772 views
Hillary Clinton came out representing New York minutes ago and proclaimed that her state was giving all of their votes to Senator Obama, then she called for an affirmation to suspend the roll call and vote as one body to support Barack Obama as president. Nancy Pelosi asked for a second, there were hundreds, and she asked for a vote, the house roared, and she announced he is the official nominee of the Democratic party. We've made history.

MOMocrats Rubbing Elbows at the Democratic National Convention

The MOMocrats hit the ground running Tuesday after learning to navigate the convention landscape Sunday and Monday. Dashing between events, we were able to see and meet some amazing people up close and talk with them - particularly women, since it was a day to celebrate the 88th anniversary of women's suffrage, unity, and equality. As PunditMom noted from Washington, there's still healing to be done, but it's happening.

From Twitter to Tear Gas: MOMocrats Take Denver & the DNCC

Tens of thousands of people are here in Denver for the Democratic National Convention - I don't even know the actual total - but in all of those people, somehow the MOMocrats are everywhere. Press events, the convention floor, the blogger lounge, the Big Tent, meetings with tea, blogging with booze, parties with condoms, marches with Blues.

On the media-whipped PUMA phenom & a one-word directive: CHILL

I like Rebecca Traister's piece on the Party Unity My Ass loyalists in Salon very much but I love this woman. The setting:

Senator Hillary Clinton's Name Will Be Submitted For Nomination At DNC

by Erin Kotecki Vest at 11:56am Thu, 14 Aug 2008 under Politics & News, Hillary Clinton, bill clinton, DNC; 1163 views
From the Obama campaign: "Since June, Senators Obama and Clinton have been working together to ensure a Democratic victory this November. They are both committed to winning back the White House and to to ensuring that the voices of all 35 million people who participated in this historic primary election are respected and heard in Denver. To honor and celebrate these voices and votes, both Senator Obama's and Senator Clinton's names will be placed in nomination."

I'm no more "Hillary's Woman" Than I Was a "Soccer Mom" or a "Sex and the City Voter"!

There's been a lot of talk about whether "Hillary's Women" will refuse to support Obama and instead choose McCain. I don't know why this topic won't die. I refuse to believe it's real. Am I being obstinate? Mary Katharine Ham asks, will Hillary's women swing?

Grieving women is a good story, but sexism pales in the face of our economic future

by Morra Aarons Mele at 10:00am Mon, 9 Jun 2008 under Politics & News, Hillary Clinton, Election 2008, high gas prices; 738 views
Hillary Clinton's concession speech Saturday was largely viewed as a personal appeal to her millions of female supporters to vote for Barack Obama and support him as passionately as they've stood for Hillary. Yes the grieving is real, but I think mourning women is an angle the media loves to cover and we need to work hard to refute it because it makes us look myopic. Anna Greenberg writes,

Health Care, Reproductive Rights, The Economy, The War: Why Would Clinton Supporters Vote For McCain?

I think all the talk about women supporters of Hillary Clinton, voting for John McCain, is being overblown by the media. Shocking. Yes, it has been a tough time to be a Hillary supporter. And yes, there are a lot of fresh wounds that will take time to heal. However, I do believe that most women who supported Hillary, did so because of her positions on the issues, and not just because she is a woman. For that reason, I have to believe that after careful consideration of the issues (especially women's issues), Clinton supporters will see that a vote for McCain, would be a vote against women.
